Tired All the Time? Private Blood Tests in Enfield
Tired All the Time? Blood Tests in Enfield That Are Worth Booking
You sleep eight hours and wake up tired. Coffee stops working by mid-morning. Weekends disappear into the sofa, and still the exhaustion sits there. If you have typed “tired all the time Enfield” into a search bar at 11pm, you are not alone. It is one of the most common worries we hear at Shamis Health & Beauty, from clients across Enfield, Edmonton, Brimsdown and Southbury. Here is the honest position: tiredness has many causes, and a blood test is not an answer machine — but it is a genuinely useful starting point, because several common causes, from low iron and low B12 to low vitamin D and thyroid changes, show up clearly in a blood sample. And you can get checked this week, not next month.
Our private blood testing service is built for exactly this: no GP referral, no long waits, and results explained in plain English.
Collect Blood → 15 mins results → Get Treatment — the sample takes minutes, results come back the same day, and treatment is only ever discussed if it is suitable for you.
Tired is a symptom, not a personality trait
People apologise for being tired all the time. They call themselves lazy. They blame their age, their job, their children. Sometimes those things are the whole story. A new baby, a stressful quarter at work, a run of broken nights will flatten anyone. But sometimes the tiredness outlasts the cause, and that is when it deserves a proper look.
The list of possible causes is long. Poor sleep. Low mood. Shift work. Medication side effects. And then the physical causes that a blood test can actually see: low iron, low B12, low folate, low vitamin D, an underactive thyroid, blood sugar problems. The NHS guidance on tiredness and fatigue makes the same point: persistent, unexplained tiredness can signal conditions such as iron-deficiency anaemia, diabetes or thyroid problems, and a GP may arrange blood tests to find the cause.
We cannot tell you why you are tired from a test alone, and we will not pretend otherwise. What a test can do is rule the common culprits in or out, quickly, so your next step is based on evidence rather than guesswork.
The first tests most people actually need
You do not need twenty tests. Most exhausted clients start with a small, sensible core, and each one earns its place.
Iron is the classic. Iron carries oxygen round your body, and when it runs low you feel it as fatigue, breathlessness on stairs you used to take easily, pale skin, sometimes restless legs at night. An iron blood test is usually the first one we suggest, particularly for women with heavy periods and anyone who eats little red meat.
Vitamin B12 keeps your nerves and red blood cells working properly. Low B12 can feel like tiredness mixed with pins and needles, a foggy head, or a tongue that feels strangely sore. A B12 test is quick, and we often pair it with a folate test, because the two work side by side and a low result in one can hide problems in the other.
Vitamin D is the North London special. Between October and spring, the sun here simply is not strong enough for your skin to make it, and low vitamin D can sit behind tiredness, low mood and aching muscles. A vitamin D test tells you exactly where you stand before you spend money on supplements.
Thyroid (TSH) is the one people mean when they say “I think it might be my thyroid”. The thyroid sets the pace of your metabolism, and TSH is the first check on how it is behaving. A thyroid TSH test makes sense when tiredness comes with feeling cold, dry skin, or weight shifting without explanation.
Cortisol is your main stress hormone. If you feel wired at midnight and exhausted at 7am, a cortisol test can add a useful piece to the picture.
The bundle most people book is iron, B12 and vitamin D, with thyroid or cortisol added when their symptoms point that way. One appointment, one blood draw, one set of results. Bundling like this saves a second trip and a second needle.
A simple order: consult, test, read, then treat
The order matters more than the menu.
First, consult. Sit down with a clinician and describe the tiredness in your own words: when it started, what makes it worse, what you have already tried. A consultation is where you avoid paying for tests you do not need.
Second, test. If you are happy with the plan, trained staff take your blood sample there and then. You can book a test online or by phone, and the draw itself takes minutes.
Third, read. Results come back in around 15 minutes and we go through them with you in plain English. Not a printout thrust into your hand, but a conversation about what each number means for you.
Fourth, treat — only if a result points somewhere, and only if treatment is suitable. Sometimes the right treatment is a vitamin shot. Sometimes it is a letter to your GP. Sometimes it is reassurance that your bloods are fine and the answer lies elsewhere.
You will find us at 530 Hertford Road, open Monday to Friday 10am–6pm and Saturday to Sunday 1pm–6pm. Many clients come straight from work; others prefer a quiet Sunday afternoon.
When tiredness is not a vitamin problem
Here is the part some clinics skip. Tiredness is not always about vitamins, and a responsible clinic says so.
Loud snoring, witnessed pauses in breathing, and waking unrefreshed every morning point towards sleep apnoea, and that needs your GP. Unexplained weight loss, drenching night sweats, chest pain, breathlessness at rest, or blood in your poo are all reasons to see a GP promptly, before you spend a penny with us. A low mood that will not lift deserves a proper conversation with a doctor too. So does exhaustion that has been grinding on for months with no obvious cause.
Diabetes, heart problems and medication side effects can all wear the same tired disguise. We are a testing and wellness clinic, not a diagnostic service, and we do not try to be one. If your picture sounds like something that belongs with a GP, we will say so plainly. And if you have blood results from us already, they are yours to take with you.
Shots and drips after a result — not instead of one
We get asked this weekly: “Can I just have the B12 shot and skip the test?” Our answer is no, and it will stay no. Treatment without a result is guesswork, and guesswork is not a service.
When a result does show something low, or your GP has already confirmed it, that is when vitamin shots and IV drips enter the conversation. Everything we give follows the same rules: pre-treatment screening, trained staff, and sterile, clinic-mixed solutions prepared on site. Nothing happens unless it is suitable for you.
And a word on expectations, because this article is the one where honesty matters most. We do not promise energy. A shot or a drip corrects a low level; how you feel afterwards varies from person to person. Some clients notice a difference within days. Some notice less than they hoped. If your tiredness turns out to have a cause no drip can touch, we will tell you that too — and point you to the right door.
Tired all the time Enfield: FAQs
Which blood test should I book if I am exhausted?
Start with the core three: iron, vitamin B12 and vitamin D, because low levels of these are the most common findings in tired clients. A consultation can add thyroid or cortisol if your symptoms point that way. One visit, one sample, no second trip.
Can I have a drip without a blood test?
We would rather you did not. Treating without a result is guessing, and we do not guess. If you have a recent test from your GP or another clinic showing a low level, bring it along and we can talk from there, after screening.
How soon will I feel different after a shot?
Honestly, it varies. Some people notice a change within days, others take weeks, and some notice less than they hoped. A shot corrects a low level. It is not an instant energy switch, and we will never promise you one.
Do I need to fast before these tests?
Most of the tests above do not need fasting, and you can eat and drink normally beforehand. If anything you book does need it, we will tell you clearly when you make the appointment, so you can plan around breakfast rather than being caught out on the day.
Can I come at the weekend?
Yes. The clinic is open Saturday and Sunday from 1pm to 6pm, which suits people who cannot get away during the working week. Weekday hours are 10am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, if you would rather come straight from the office one evening.
Will you tell me if I should see my GP instead?
Yes, plainly. If your symptoms sound like something that needs a GP first, such as unexplained weight loss, chest pain or severe breathlessness, we will say so before you spend anything. Your results always belong to you either way, and you are welcome to take them to your own doctor.
